- Psychotherapy = treatment of mental illness / behavioural disturbance in which a trained professional establishes a professional contract with the patient and, through verbal and non-verbal therapeutic communication, alleviates emotional disturbance, changes maladaptive behaviour, and encourages personality growth. Distinguished from somatic therapies (drugs, ECT).
